3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds

3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds

3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds

By: Heath Wood

With a massive acorn crop, two of my treestand setups that I had hung in late August were now in locations where deer movement was minimal. After looking at the weekend forecast, I knew I needed to be hunting in hopes of catching a mature buck up on his feet. Yet, deer movement was more profound in the timber. Unfortunately, I did not have a stand near the area I wanted to hunt.

3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds

When trying to make a game plan of where to hunt during the first evening of the weekend, I decided to hunt in a ground blind set up in the timber.  A spot in which two steep ridges came together to form a bottleneck shape that was a natural travel route for deer. I predicted the deer would travel out of a river bottom, feeding on the thousands of acorns falling from the trees. I was confident I had chosen a good location.

I settled into my blind around 2:45 p.m. due to the fear of pushing deer out of the area. After 40 minutes, I found myself caught off guard by a mature doe standing at twenty yards. When I first saw the doe, she had already locked her eyes on me in the blind. After a few seconds of an intense stare-down, she blew and headed back into the river bottom. For the next two and a half hours, five different does, all at different times, came into the area, blew, then bolted out of sight.

Numerous times throughout the evening, I used my Hunters Specialties Windicator to determine the wind direction. Each time, the wind hit me in the face. I had no idea the cause of this sudden downturn in events. Only later did I realize I had committed three of the most common mistakes bowhunters make when hunting from a ground blind.

Too Much Movement

3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds 3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds 3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds

When most of the deer that evening came into close range, they were already on high alert because of the unusual movement that they had encountered. Four out of five of the deer that night had seen me long before I spotted them, thus the reason for them being on high alert.

When hunting deer at their eye level, it is essential to keep movement to a minimum and be cautious of every movement while inside the blind. Many hunters think that they can get by with excessive movement because they are inside of a blind even though the hunter can move more than if in the wide open, they must still be aware of head and body movement when scanning for deer. The slightest unusual movement will result in deer leaving the area.

To help minimize movement, the hunter should wear black clothing on the upper body, hands, and head. By wearing black, the hunter blends with the interior of the blind, keeping them more concealed. Another option to stay concealed is using a blind such as the Infinity 2-Person blind from Muddy Outdoors. The Infinity blind is made with an innovative shadow mesh window curtain technology that allows the hunter to see out of the blind, yet wildlife cannot see in. This creates a 360-degree view and eliminates blind spots while keeping the hunter concealed.

Wrong Location

3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds

I am a true believer in bowhunting from ground blinds. Yet, after my hunt, I wondered why all the deer had spotted me and sensed something was wrong when they got into close range of my blind.

After reassessing my hunt later that night, I realized my blind was in the wrong location. When the deer came out of the river bottom, they first saw my blind eye level with the area they were traveling. If my blind had been down the ridge, forty to fifty yards farther, the deer would have had time to feel safe because the blind not causing an instant red flag.

When sitting up a ground blind, it is vital to brush in around it to help conceal the location. Sitting the blind in a more open area, where deer feel comfortable, is also essential.

A blind should not be used in tight situations like where I was hunting. Instead, I returned to that specific location and hung a hang-on treestand more suitable for the terrain.

Use A Blind Chair

3 Common Mistakes When Bowhunting Ground Blinds

When humans are not comfortable, it is natural to want to move and twist our bodies—sitting inside a ground blind when hunting can wreak havoc on a hunter’s body if they are not sitting in the proper chair. When sitting in an uncomfortable seat, back and leg pain are common. Add constant movement from trying to get into a more comfortable position to the mix, and it does not make for a relaxed hunt. I sat on a small tripod-style seat for four hours on my hunt. It is obvious now that in doing so, I made an excessive amount of unwanted movement that cost me a harvest.

Using a more comfortable chair that is designed to hunt inside of a blind is a must when bowhunting. A blind chair such as the Muddy Swivel-Ease XT Ground Seat is ideal for the hunter to sit comfortably for an extended period. Padded armrests, a large seating area, and 360-degree silent mobility provide the hunter with less movement and the ability to hunt quietly until that monster buck comes into close range.

Holiday Gift Guide for Deer Hunters

The Deer Hunting Holiday Gift Guide You Need

Each holiday season, people spend an awful lot of time pondering what to get for family members and friends. While it’s good to be thoughtful about gift ideas, the process will be a lot easier when shopping for deer hunters if you use this holiday gift guide. And if you’re a hunter, feel free to nonchalantly leave this Christmas list somewhere your loved ones will notice it. Whether you’re looking for some new items for deer camp or simply want to add some new hunting gear to your collection, there are some great ideas in this hunting gift guide.

1. Pole Saw

For those with land to manage and tree stands to move around, having the right tools makes a big difference. Whether you have a limb blocking a shot from your tree stand or you just need to clean up some trees while doing timber stand improvement projects, the Muddy pole saw is the perfect companion. Its dual-purpose design allows you to use the serrated blade for larger branches and the pruners to cut smaller ones.

2. Trail Camera

Is there such a thing as too many trail cameras? We don’t think so, which is why it deserves a spot on this holiday gift guide. The Pro-Cam 16 Bundle provides everything you need to quickly put it out yet this winter or save it for next spring. Either way, the 16 MP camera takes great pictures or videos and the invisible flash doesn’t spook deer. This is a great hunting gift idea.

3. Shooting Bench

Having a sturdy and well-made shooting bench is important for sighting new rifles in or just plinking practice. The Extreme Shooting Bench has a steel benchtop and comfortable, padded seat, and the seat and top can swivel independently or in tandem. The rubber molded gun rest will keep your firearm sturdy and keep you on point. The bench is equipped with some interchangeable accessories, such as a gear hook, gear basket, and cup holder.

4. Safety Harness

If you’re willing to consider items on a holiday gift guide, there’s a reasonable chance you love the person you’re shopping for. What better way to show that than get a new safety harness for them? The Ambush Safety Harness is weighted for 300 pounds and should be used every time a hunter leaves the ground. As you do your holiday shopping, keep their well-being in mind.

5. Camera Accessories

If the person you’re shopping for wants to start filming their hunts, consider getting them a critical self-filming accessory: a camera arm. The Basic Camera Arm is a great introductory option for people to start filming their hunts. It is fully adjustable and has a quick-release mount to make things easier in the tree stand. A camera arm is a great gift idea for hunters.

6. Shooting Rail

When you have to shoot a rifle from a tree stand, it helps to have a shooting rail to keep you steady and improve your accuracy. The Muddy Universal Shooting Rail attaches to any tree stand setup and adds a layer of stability to help in that critical moment. This makes it the perfect tree stand accessory.

7. Seat

If you prefer to hunt from blinds (whether on the ground or in a tower stand), it can keep you more comfortable in different weather conditions. But to stay comfortable all day, you need a good seat. The Swivel Ground Seat is reasonably packable at only 15 pounds, and swivels 360 degrees so you can make the shot when needed. Since most hunters tend to opt for a 5 gallon bucket, this is a sure hit on this holiday gift guide.

8. Hunting Blind

If a swivel seat will impress, imagine their surprise if you got a new hunting blind for them. The VS360 blind sets up quickly and can fit a couple people comfortably. It has large windows with shoot through mesh and includes brush strips so you can quickly brush it in and disappear. Including hunting blinds on your holiday gift guide will quickly make you #1 on their list.

9. Game Cart

Depending on where you hunt and how close you can approach your hunting location, having a good way to get the deer out of the woods is an important consideration. The Mule Game Cart allows you to haul a 300 pound deer easily and the rubber coated handles make it more comfortable and ergonomic.

10. Lift System

Once you get a deer, it’s nice to have an easy way to lift it up to allow for easier skinning and butchering. The Magnum Lift System has a weight reduction pulley system to lift up to 500 pounds easily and by yourself. It has an automatic self-locking system to stop once you get to the height you need the deer.

Big Game Motorsports and Lasoski Secure FVP National Sprint League Title

Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 14, 2015) – Danny Lasoski led Big Game Motorsports to another accomplishment last weekend as the Muddy backed team officially secured the inaugural FVP National Sprint League championship.

Lasoski, who leads the series in wins, top fives and top 10s, owns an 893-point advantage with only two races remaining following another stout weekend.

“I’m very proud of our team,” he said. “We set a goal to try to win both championships (at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, and the NSL title) and the Knoxville Nationals. We’ve won both of those, but came up a little short in the Knoxville Nationals. Two out of three isn’t bad.”

Lasoski kicked off last weekend on Friday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for the Nebraska Cup with the FVP National Sprint League. He qualified 10th quickest on a track that remained heavy throughout the night. Lasoski then finished second in a heat race before ending with a ninth-place result in the main event.

The Muddy sponsored team ventured to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., on Saturday for the Jerry Richert Memorial. Lasoski timed in third quickest during qualifying before he charged from sixth to second place in a heat race, which locked him into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 5 during the random draw to start the main event on the inside of the third row.

“We have got our qualifying and heat race setup pretty spot on,” he said. “When the race track has grip on it we’re great, but right now we’re fighting to get our car stuck when the track slicks off. Usually when it gets slick that’s where we shine, but for whatever reason it’s been a struggle recently.”

Lasoski battled for a top five throughout the main event before posting a sixth-place result, which was good enough to wrap up the FVP National Sprint League title.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where Lasoski qualified third quickest and maneuvered from fifth to fourth place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“As soon as the green flag waved we struggled,” he said. “It’s a balance thing. We’re not getting the horsepower to the ground. We’re slipping and sliding. We’ve definitely got to get it figured out. Just because it’s worked at the beginning of the year doesn’t mean it will work at the end of the year. The dirt changes. Every day the sport changes. Sometimes to take a step forward you have to take a couple of steps back. Guy (Forbrook) and the rest of the team are working hard to get it figured out.”

Lasoski held on for a seventh-place result, which marked the Muddy sponsored team’s 47th top 10 of the season.

Big Game Motorsports will return to competition this Friday at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, for the Arnold Motor Supply Shootout and Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the Clash at the Creek with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

Big Game Motorsports and Lasoski Use Trio of Top 10s to Bolster Points Lead

Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Sept. 8, 2015) – Big Game Motorsports and driver Danny Lasoski are one step closer to clinching the inaugural FVP National Sprint League championship.

The Muddy sponsored team owns a 997-point advantage with four races remaining thanks to a trio of top 10s last weekend. Lasoski has now earned 23 top-10 finishes in the 24 series features.

“It was all top 10s last weekend, but we’re definitely a better team than that,” he said. “We strive to win every race.”

The weekend began on Friday at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn., for the first night of the 37th annual Jackson Nationals doubleheader. Lasoski qualified eighth quickest and he maneuvered from fifth to second place in a heat race. That earned him a spot in the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 5 to start the main event on the inside of the third row.

“When we rolled in there it was to win the race, but we knew it was all about points,” he said. “We had our work cut out for Saturday after Friday’s performance. We had to pass some cars and make things happen.”

Lasoski, who maintained a top five throughout Friday’s feature before finishing fourth, ranked fifth in overall points following Night 1. That locked the Muddy backed team into Saturday’s $25,000-to-win main event.

“We battled to put ourselves in position to win,” he said.

Lasoski qualified fifth quickest and again powered from fifth to second place in a heat race. That moved him up to second in overall points and garnered the outside front row starting position for the main event. Lasoski also had a $25,000 bonus on the line since he picked up qualifying wins at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, and at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D, earlier this season.

“We had a shot at earning $50,000 and we came up short,” he said. “Whoever got the lead on the start, the percentage was high you’d win. The race track started laying rubber so whoever was leading the first lap could set the pace. We had three different starts on the feature. One went our way and two didn’t. Then I cost the team two spots by making a driver error. I’ll take the blame for that. We got one of them back at the checkered flag.”

Lasoski ended with a third-place result, which marked his 38th top five of the season.

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where the Muddy sponsored team set quick time during qualifying before advancing from sixth to fourth place in a heat race. Lasoski pulled the No. 4 during the feature redraw to start the main event on the outside of the second row.

“We started out stellar,” he said. “We had a great car and then I don’t know what happened in the A Main. We just missed it. We weren’t where we needed to be. You can’t dwell on it. You dissect it in your mind and then go onto the next race.”

Lasoski competed for a top five throughout most of the race before posting a seventh-place result.

Big Game Motorsports returns to FVP National Sprint League competition this Friday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., for the Nebraska Cup and Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for the Jerry Richert Memorial.

BLANEY GRABS TWO TOP 10S IN MICHIGAN WITH ALL STAR CIRCUIT OF CHAMPIONS

Blaney Grabs Two Top 10s in Michigan with All Star Circuit of Champions

Inside Line Promotions – QUINCY, Mich. (Aug. 25, 2015) – Dale Blaney powered to a pair of top 10s last weekend during a UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader to maintain a sizeable lead in the championship standings.

Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team hold a 213-point advantage with 10 races remaining this season following a sixth-place result last Friday at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., and a ninth-place finish on Saturday at Butler Speedway.

The weekend began with Blaney qualifying fourth quickest – first in his group – on Friday at I-96 Speedway. He then finished where he started – fourth – in a heat race to lock into the main event.

“We didn’t qualify good enough and then it was one lane in the heat races,” he said. “That put us 12th in the A Main. It was hard to pass. We got to sixth, but didn’t make too many passes. We made a decent night out of it. I-96 is a neat facility, but for whatever reason that night it didn’t create a lot of good racing.”

The team ventured to Butler Speedway the ensuing night and Blaney timed in ninth quickest overall – second in his group.

“I went out early and I didn’t really cut a good lap,” he said. “That place is tough. Sometimes it gets better as it goes. It was good enough to be second in our group, but I don’t think there was a pass for position in the heat races. I needed to time better or else time worse to get myself on the front row of a heat.”

Blaney placed third in a heat race to miss a spot in the dash by one position. That lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

“It was tough,” he said. “I didn’t pass one car. Sheldon (Haudenschild) blew a tire and another driver spun out. Track position was the key.”

The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored sprint car ended ninth in the feature, which marked Blaney’s 43rd top 10 this season.

Sunday’s event at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio, rained out midway through qualifying.

Blaney is set to return to action this Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa.

Big Game Motorsports and Lasoski Capture NSL Win, Two Podiums

Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (Aug. 25, 2015) – Danny Lasoski continued his tear in the Midwest last weekend as he led Big Game Motorsports to its seventh FVP National Sprint League feature victory this season.

The win kicked off a two-race weekend that culminated in a pair of podium finishes for the Muddy backed team, which has earned 13 podiums in 18 races with the series. Lasoski holds an 888-point advantage in the championship standings with 10 races remaining.

“We were devastated after the Knoxville Nationals, but my guys kept their heads down and kept working hard,” he said. “That shows their dedication.”

Lasoski opened the weekend on Friday at Fairmont Raceway in Fairmont, Minn., by qualifying second quickest. He then finished fourth in a heat race to advance into the dash, where a fan randomly selected the No. 2 during the redraw to start Lasoski on the outside of the front row for the dash.

“That was one hundred percent the key to victory,” he said. “The race track was the darkest track I’ve driven on and it was really narrow. You were tip-toeing through traffic.”

Lasoski won the dash and led all 25 laps of the main event to post the 11th feature victory of the year for the Muddy sponsored team, which wrapped up the weekend on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway.

Lasoski timed in second quickest during qualifying and he advanced from sixth to fourth place during the heat race to make the feature redraw. This time he pulled the No. 5 to start the main event on the inside of the third row.

“They dropped the green and we came through the field pretty quick,” he said. “(Dusty) Zomer got the lead early. I got beside him a couple of times, but the only way I’d win was to catch him in traffic. It didn’t work out in our favor so we ran second.”

The second-place result was the team’s 33rd top five in 43 races this season.

Big Game Motorsports returns to competition this Friday at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo.; Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa; and Sunday at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis., with the FVP National Sprint League.

Lasoski Scores Top 10 with Big Game Motorsports During His 25th Career Knoxville Nationals A Main

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 18, 2015) – Danny Lasoski guided Big Game Treestands to a top 10 during the 55th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store last weekend at Knoxville Raceway.

However, he is anything but satisfied.

“We had one goal, which was to win,” he said. “This year was really different for me. I wasn’t racing for anything but to get that trophy for Tod (Quiring) and Guy (Forbrook). I put out 110 percent effort every time I hit the track. I’m devastated about the end result, but we’re not going to bury our heads. We’re going to try to win every race from here on out.”

The Muddy sponsored team kicked off the event last Thursday with Lasoski qualifying 14th quickest out of more than 55 competitors despite going out late to qualify.

“When you roll into the city limits your luck has to start there,” he said. “When you draw that little pill you have to have luck on your side. Unfortunately we drew a 54, which is the back row.”

Lasoski then maneuvered from sixth to win a heat race, which locked him into the main event.

“We’ve really got our heat race program where the car has been mobile,” he said. “Guy has done a great job of making it to where I can take it to the top and bottom and pass. It’s made my job a lot easier. That helped us get some points.”

Lasoski was the final driver to make the eight-car feature inversion, which lined him up on the pole for the 25-lap feature.

“We took off and the race car was able to go anywhere,” he said. “After a caution about halfway I felt like there was water under the tires. All I did was slip and slide. When the race was over you could shave in them. We sealed them up.”

Lasoski led the first 14 laps before he ended with a runner-up finish. However, the Muddy backed team earned the sixth-most points through preliminary competition to garner the sixth starting position for Saturday’s $150,000-to-win, 50-lap feature. It marked the 25th Knoxville Nationals A Main start for Lasoski.

“The calmness level for our team was phenomenal,” he said. “We were all very positive. We knew we’d have to be on top of our game to run with (Donny Schatz). His team has been about unbeatable. We were really confident, but knew our work was cut out for us.”

Lasoski quickly maneuvered into the runner-up position by racing through the middle of the track. He closed in on Schatz for the lead when the planned halfway caution came out, sending the teams into the infield for a five-minute caution.

“That’s the benefit of having a veteran crew chief,” he said. “You can’t beat somebody if you have to follow them. The first 25 laps the wheels never slipped. It was a phenomenal sight to see the No. 15 (of Schatz) get closer and closer. When we came in for our five minutes pit stop we put on two new tires and fuel in it. For whatever reason it wasn’t the same car. I was in trouble from the drop of the green.”

Lasoski held on to second place for several laps before he gradually faded to an eighth-place finish, which marked his 18th career top 10 during the event.

The Muddy sponsored team will return to FVP National Sprint League competition this Friday at Fairmont Raceway in Fairmont, Minn., and Saturday at Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa.

BIG GAME MOTORSPORTS AND LASOSKI SCORE SIXTH WIN IN 10 RACES, THIRD STRAIGHT WITH NSL

Big Game Motorsports and Lasoski Score Sixth Win in 10 Races, Third Straight with NSL

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 6, 2015) – Big Game Motorsports continues to build steam as Danny Lasoski guided the Muddy sponsored team to its sixth feature victory during the past 10 races last Friday.

Lasoski led the distance of the 35-lap FVP National Sprint League event at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., to capture his third straight NSL triumph and boost his lead in the championship standings.

After opening the night by qualifying sixth quickest and finishing fifth in a heat race, Lasoski took advantage of drawing a front row starting position for the main event. He lined up on the outside of the polesitter and quickly powered into the lead.

“We got a really good draw,” he said. “The race track was basically one lane and really sticky. We took it easy and bided our time. I knew if I can’t pass a lapped car they can’t pass me. You really had to be careful as narrow as it was. It’s really hard to win a race, but it’s easy to be taken out.”

Lasoski maintained the top spot to earn Big Game Motorsports its seventh victory of the season.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where Lasoski qualified third quickest despite going out late for qualifying. He then maneuvered the Muddy backed sprint car from sixth to fourth place during a heat race to advance into the feature redraw. Lasoski then pulled the No. 2 to start on the front row for the second straight night.

“I had a really good draw, but before I exited turn two on the start I was third,” he said. “We got beat on the start. Any time we got in lapped traffic and thought we had an opportunity a caution would come out. Terry McCarl was setting a really good pace and in order for us to beat him he had to make a mistake, which he didn’t.”

Lasoski earned the runner-up result, which increased his lead in the NSL standings to 321 points and the Knoxville Raceway standings to 249 points.

Big Game Motorsports is set to compete on Friday at Park Jefferson International Speedway in Jefferson, S.D., with the FVP National Sprint League; Saturday at Knoxville Raceway; and Sunday at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

Lasoski enters the weekend with six straight podium finishes with the Muddy sponsored team.

BLANEY SCORES TWO MORE OHIO SPEEDWEEK WINS BEFORE FINISHING SECOND IN POINTS

Blaney Scores Two More Ohio Speedweek Wins Before Finishing Second in Points

Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (June 30, 2015) – Dale Blaney came up one spot shy of his sixth UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Speedweek title.

Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team finished second in the Ohio Speedweek points, but extended the overall All Star championship lead to 163 points following seven straight nights of racing.

“It was a really good week,” he said. “We couldn’t ask for anything more. The car counts were really good. We made the dash all seven nights and that was huge for us. We time trialed well four of them and ran a good heat race in three others. We had six really good nights and caught one bad break at Eldora.”

Blaney kicked off the second half of Ohio Speedweek last Tuesday at his home track of Sharon Speedway in Hartford, where he qualified fourth quickest and finished third in a heat race to advance into the dash.

“I got a good dash draw and we were really good in the dash,” he said. “Track position is important every race, but it was pretty crucial there. I got out to a good start in the feature and caught a couple of cautions that kept me out of thick traffic. To get a win there in front of a bunch of friends, it’s pretty special.”

Blaney led the distance of the feature after claiming the dash to earn his second victory during Ohio Speedweek.

Momentum continued to roll on Wednesday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe as the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored team timed in 12thquickest during qualifying. Blaney advanced from third to second place during a heat race to lock into the dash, where he powered from ninth to a runner-up result.

“Atomic has been a really good track for us the last 10 years,” he said. “We’ve gone really good there and the track is really similar every time we go there. We drew five bad pills during the week and two good ones (during the dash redraw). If I was going to get a bad one I was glad it was there because the track was so wide and racy. It wasn’t easy to overcome, but it didn’t hurt as much as other places.”

Once again Blaney led the entire race from his front row starting position to secure his third Ohio Speedweek victory, which was his sixth with the series this season and 121st overall.

“I think we ran about half the race and it started spotting rubber,” he said. “With about 10 laps to go the rubber came in. I felt like we were good until the rubber came and then we just hung on. I was being a little more conservative than I should have been.”

Ohio Speedweek wrapped up on Thursday at Fremont Speedway thanks to the final two nights being rained out last weekend. Blaney set quick time during qualifying and he placed third in a heat race to advance into the dash.

“Drawing the 10 didn’t help us there for sure,” he said. “I was just hoping to get to sixth in the dash, but we weren’t very good. We made the right adjustments after the dash and we got back on our normal program.”

Blaney, who maneuvered from 10th to eighth during the dash, started the feature on the outside of the fourth row.

“If it didn’t lay rubber I think we had a good chance of winning,” he said. “I got to second and you had to be on the bottom lane. The rubber wasn’t down a ton, but you had to be on the bottom.”

Blaney lost a position when he got out of the rubber trying to make a pass for the lead. He ended with a third-place result, which was his sixth top 10 during Ohio Speedweek.

The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed team returns to action with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champion on Friday and Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pa., and Sunday at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio.
